We are pleased to announce that Nathaniel Heller will join Results for Development (R4D) as managing director in late 2014. Nathaniel will lead R4D’s Accountability & Citizen Engagement work, spearheading the program’s ongoing work aimed at strengthening citizen-centric transparency and accountability around the world and at identifying and promoting new innovations in the governance and transparency fields. In his new role as Managing Director, Nathaniel will lead a dynamic team that has been a pioneer in strengthening social accountability since 2007.

“Nathaniel has been a driving force across many important sectors, including governance, anti-corruption, US foreign policy, and social entrepreneurship,” said David de Ferranti, president of R4D. “His deep expertise and proven track record developing innovative approaches to promoting transparency, accountability, and open governance will be a tremendous asset to R4D.”

Since 2005, Nathaniel has led Global Integrity, a non-profit organization that promotes greater transparency and accountability in governments worldwide through high-quality research, cutting-edge technology, and innovative policy insights. During his time as Executive Director of Global Integrity, Nathaniel led the organization from its founding through a period of intensive growth that saw Global Integrity established as a global leader on anti-corruption and governance issues. The impact of Nathaniel’s work with Global Integrity has been considerable, including the development of best-of-breed methodologies for measuring public sector integrity systems; thought leadership in shaping the nascent open government movement; and the creation of the OpenGov Hub, the world’s first open government-themed co-working community with locations in Washington, DC and Kathmandu, Nepal.

“I am thrilled to be joining the incredible team at R4D,” said Heller. “There are few organizations in the world that possess such deep expertise and experience across both governance and key sectors including health, education, nutrition, and market dynamics. I am eager to begin tapping into that deep reservoir of knowledge as we begin taking the governance program to the next level.”

“After years of respecting and benefiting from Global Integrity’s groundbreaking work in the area of transparency and accountability, we are incredibly excited to have Nathaniel join R4D, “ said Courtney Tolmie, R4D senior program director. “Nathaniel’s expertise and leadership will be a great addition to R4D.”
