Testing Approaches to Improving Child Nutrition in Partnership with Indian Childcare Providers

Mobile Creches is an early childhood development program that offers quality childcare services for children from birth to age 12 in urban slums and construction sites across Delhi, India. In 2015 and 2016, R4D’s Evaluation and Adaptive Learning team supported Mobile Creches’ monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities.

R4D initiated our engagement in September 2015 to test different approaches to community engagement within construction sites where Mobile Creches runs childcare centers — in particular, how to improve nutrition practices at home for parents of creche attendants. R4D worked with Mobile Creches staff to understand the key challenges and barriers to good nutrition through formative research with the construction site community.

Based on this initial research, R4D focused our work with Mobile Creches on supporting their internal M&E infrastructure and capacity. A future phase of work using adaptive learning methods may involve testing high-potential nutrition practices through community leader development and parental engagement.
