Out-of-School Children: Global, Regional, and Country Perspectives

Despite the enactment of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act in 2009, which requires that all children complete 8 years of schooling by the age of 14 years, India is still home to millions of out of school children. Implementation of RTE has not been as planned and children continue to be denied their right to quality education.

This presentation sets India’s out-of-school challenge within the global context and proposes innovative solutions based on R4D’s research in this area.
