The global economic recession has tightened budgets, straining the willingness of donors to continue financing educational programs in low and middle income countries. In “Strategies for Financing of education: a global view,” Managing Director Nicholas Burnett highlights the need for further support for and research on education in low-income countries. Education is competing against a variety of global issues for international support and financing, and the need for quality schooling in low-income countries is not being met. Education in these countries, particularly those in conflict states and in Sub-Saharan Africa, is significantly lagging behind the international standard. In this paper, Burnett recommends a series of innovative financing options through which the international education can be improved.
