Promoting Women’s Empowerment Through More Equitable Services and Infrastructure

Women’s invisibility in data and decision-making processes often translates into a lack of services and infrastructure that overlooks their needs.

On March 14, IDRC hosts an interactive discussion that will feature varied case studies from global research and policy partners, on the barriers women face in accessing equitable services and infrastructure and its impact on their overall empowerment, as well as solutions and promising interventions that promote social and economic inclusion.

Expert speakers will examine the following questions: How do we address the invisibility of women in service-provision systems? How do we ensure that information about existing services and infrastructure is inclusive and far reaching? What combination of interventions that provide assets and services to women are proving most effective to promote gender equality and inclusion?

Speakers:

  • Mayra Buvinic, senior fellow, Data2X and Center for Global Development
  • Allison Merchant, Senior Gender Advisor, Results for Development and Open Government Partnership
  • Rakhi Sehgal, labor researcher and activist
  • Carolina Trivelli, Researcher at the Instituto de Estudios Peruanos and former Minister of Development and Social Inclusion for Peru
  • Moderator: Alejandra Vargas Garcia, senior program officer for the Governance and Justice Team at Canada’s International Development Research Centre

The event is free and open to the public but you are encouraged to RSVP.
